Why does he need to "ponder" over going out with me?

Ok, so this guy who has a crush on me but he's oblivious to it. We have the same interests and everything. I asked him out because I grew fond of him. During cl I text him to see if he got the flowers I sent him (our school was having Carnation Sales and I sent him 2 pink, secret admirer, and a note telling him I like him) Well he replies with a ".....*0.0*" And he said he would have to "ponder it." Why does he have to think about it? All of our friends agree that we SHOULD go out. So..... what gives??????
