How does TV advertising work in Europe? Financially speaking.?

Yes its true of the BBC, however there is no adverts but you have to pay for a TV licence even though most of the other channels sell advertising space, i have travelled to quite a lot of other countries in Europe and have never seen this system applied and as you say its the advertisers who pay.
