Frame ups in business?

How common is it to falsely implicate a person? What is the motivation of this type of individual / company? A company has been desperately trying to send me a cheque and get it encashed, even when I have not asked for it. They are falsely claiming that I requested the cheque and generating fake IP addresses and requests. What do you do to such a company?
