Can i put a 55 gallon tank on a dresser?

Water weighs 8 lbs a gallon so a 55 gallon tank would weigh 440 lbs theoretically. You probably wouldn't have the whole 55 gallons in it, and you would have rock, etc. It's important to have a safe place to put it and it must be even. You would need a piece of styrofoam or similar for it to sit on, too. Many apartments do not permit fish tanks because of the weight. A dresser doesn't sound like it is strong enough.
