Men, what's with the semi (bottom half only) mustache?

I don't understand it. Either go hard or go home. It seems popular among urban and ethnic males, but I've not seen a mustache with the top half shaved off that looks anyway decent. It's like the new mullet. Pencil thin beard, I'm looking at you, too. Discuss.
